LIVE REPORT ~ Halcali: May 17, 2008

ACen, Chicago, IL

Only a large table with DJ equipment stood on the stage as ACen attendees waited for Halcali to take the stage. Soon, a DJ came out and stood behind the table. Anticipation buzzed through the air, building and building as the DJ started the music. The catchy beat had much of the crowd moving before anyone had even seen the two girls.

With big smiles on their faces, the pop duo of Halca and Yucali strode onto the stage. It didn’t take much for the crowd to explode, and for Halcali to have the crowd dancing with the help of their DJ. Even though most of the audience was probably seeing Halcali for the first time, they quickly latched on to the lyrics, and some even attempted to mimic the girls’ synchronized dance moves.

It’s Party Time described the mood perfectly. Halcali’s infectious sound had everyone moving. Whether you were trying to escape the stress from registration, the fact that you had already spent all your money, or you just wanted to let loose for a little while, it was easy to have fun getting lost in the beat of songs like Marching March. And with a performance that had a healthy mix of pop, hip-hop, rap, and dance, Halcali had something for just about anyone.

Anime fans were pleased as the Halcali anime tie-in--Tip Taps Tip--was accompanied by footage from Psalms of Planets Eureka Seven. Other videos featuring the duo gave everyone extra visuals to feast their eyes on.

They may not have had the crazy stage show that Peelander-Z had just given ACen, but Halcali certainly held the crowd’s attention. As they left the stage, the crowd shouted their protests, and before too long, Halca and Yucali obligingly returned to the stage, giving them one last hurrah before saying goodbye for good.
